School Construction Initiatives
Three major initiatives aimed at improving conditions in Pennsylvania’s school buildings have been developed.
The following funding programs are available to school districts for new construction as well as renovations and additions to existing buildings.
Pennsylvania Governor's Green Government Council - Green Schools Planning Grants
The Department of Education has also created the School Design Clearinghouse, which features school designs that meet state standards for cost-efficiency, education, and health and safety. Thanks to the school construction legislation signed into law in 2005, school districts that use plans from the School Design Clearinghouse website will receive a 10 percent increase in their state school construction reimbursement rate.
